The Alleghany Agricultural Advisory Board (AAAB) is planning their 2024 Agriculture Awards banquet to be held in  February 2024.

The (AAAB) established this awards program to recognize local farmers for their accomplishments in the agriculture field. An exact date has not been set as of yet and more details will be forthcoming when available.

The Board is seeking applications for the following categories:Agricultural Hall of Fame, Young/Beginning Producer and Century Farm Award

Agriculture Hall of Fame Award

Alleghany residents who have rendered distinguished service in the science and art of agriculture should apply for the Agriculture Hall of Fame Award. The performance of this individual must be outstanding and as a result of his or her efforts, the cause of agriculture materially benefited. The field activity may have been primarily scientific, practical farming or a personality who led a great movement of agricultural progress.

Young/ Beginning Producer Award

The Young/Beginning Producer Award will recognize any young man or woman who is in the beginning or developmental stages of their agricultural career. The goal is to provide recognition to those are who are showing signs of growth and knowledge both professionally and personally. Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 40. Individuals may be part-time or full-time farmers/producers. One application will be selected as the award recipient.

Century Farm Award

Applicants who can show evidence of continuous family ownership of their farm for the past 100 years are encouraged to apply for the Century Farm Award. This designation is made through the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

Individuals may complete an application or be nominated by someone.

All applications must be returned by Friday, December 8, 2023
