An Alleghany County 4-H’er recently attended the fourteenth annual North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) YouthVoice,  held in Greenville, North Carolina on August 22 & 23rd. North Carolina 4-H and the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service partnered for the fourteenth year with the NCACC on this youth leadership initiative to increase youth involvement in county government.

This initiative helps youth learn more about county government as well as how to become more involved in local decision making. Youth participate in the True Colors Assessment along with various teambuilding activities and a Bottom Line Budget Simulation allowing youth a hands-on approach to county budgeting.

We are extremely proud of Grant Wagoner, a sophomore at Alleghany High School and an active Alleghany 4-Her,  who attended this event representing Alleghany County. In addition Grant attended a County Commissioners meeting where he presented to the group about this opportunity. The event is sponsored and supported by the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners.

For more information on the Alleghany 4-H program, please contact Amy Lucas at amy_lucas@ncsu.edu or by phone at 336-372-5597.
